Finding the right Eyeliner

Ever wondered if you’re wearing the right type of eyeliner?  We have found that different skin types require different eyeliners.

Here’s how to find out what will work best for you:

If you tend to have skin that is more oily around the eyes or your liquid or cream eyeliner tends to ‘melt’ during the day and leave you with ‘racoon eyes’, a natural Powder Eyeliner will work best for you.  The liner can be applied with a wet or dry eyeliner brush, which quickly dries to create a nice lined look without the extra oils.  This helps to keep it in place all day.

If you have drier skin around your eyes, or if you are using a powder liner and finding it doesn’t stay on well or flakes off during the day, use a natural Eyeliner Pencil.  The oils from the pencil will help the color adhere to drier skin longer, and will help it stay put all day long.

Applying Cheek Colour

One great tip for beautiful cheeks is to lightly brush over your blush color with a small amount of natural Foundation or Finishing Powder.  This creates a smooth, blended look and helps to avoid showing any lines, streaks or darker areas created while applying.

Bring beautiful color to your face with Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques’ new blush colour: Victorian Rose.

Similar to the new Strawberry Parfait Cheek colour, this shade was developed for women with skin that tends to turn colors orange when applied.  This colour is a deeper mauve color than Strawberry Parfait and can be used on medium to medium-dark skin tones.

Help for Acne-prone skin

September 4, 2009

As an esthetician, I have met many, many women who struggle with acne problems – even middle-aged women who never had acne as teenagers!

Blemished skin can be difficult and have devastating effects on self-esteem.  I have noticed with my own experience as well as with other women that changing from chemical-laden makeup and skin care products to using more natural and organic products can help tremendously with long-term skin health.

I just received a testimonial from a customer and wanted to pass along her experience with Lauren Brooke Foundation for those who are looking for a foundation that is natural and gentle with acne-prone skin:

Dear Lauren,

I wanted to tell you how much I love your foundation!  It seems to be the only makeup I’ve tried (and I’ve tried A LOT) that doesn’t aggravate my acne.  Thanks so much for your help.

Add some cool holographic shimmer with the newest colour in Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques‘ Mystic Series.

Mystic Ice looks white in the jar, but when brushed on the eyelids, the color shifts from turquoise to blue and violet.   It works beautifully alone on darker skin tones or can be applied over darker contour colors for women with lighter skin tones as well.  Try applying with a wet Eyeliner Brush around your eyes for even more dramatic effects!

Ingredient Watch: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

It’s a mouth full, but what is it and where does it come from?

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is derived from coconut oil.  Coconut oil is different than other plant-derived oils.  It has a very high melting point of around 76 degrees Fahrenheit/24 degrees Celcius, and it consists of many different fatty acids, most of which are Caprylic and Capric fatty acids.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, or Fractionated Coconut Oil as it is sometimes called, is created by separating the caprylic and capric fatty acids (or medium chain fatty acids) from the long chain fatty acids in coconut oil.  This separation is done physically by a press or centrifuge, so there are no chemicals or solvents used in the process.

Because of this, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a safe and natural ingredient that can be used in natural makeup and body care products!

Looking for something new and fun this summer?

Try Lauren Brooke Eye Colour’s Mystic Line.  Use alone or over darker shades for a new and exciting look – especially in the summer sun!

Kendra is wearing ‘Sunglow’ Eye Base with ‘Eggplant’ as a contour color in the outer crease area.  For Eyeliner we used an Eyeliner brush and applied ‘Eggplant’ along the bottom of the eyelid and ‘Mystic Tawna’ above it, both wet, as Eyeliners.  To finish, we added Mystic Tawna over the entire eyelid for the color-shifting, holographic effect.

Our Mystic Series includes:

Mystic Amethyst (light purple)

Mystic Copper

Mystic Dawn (soft pink)

Mystic Gold

Mystic Tawna (peach to moonstone color shift)

Powder Makeup

Mineral Makeup can be quick and easy to apply, but sometimes too much powder can get into the top of the jar and spill, making it hard to control.

Here’s a quick tip to help manage the mess:

1) When you first open the jar, keep the sifter sticker on (If sticker has already been removed, clean the sifter and cover holes with a small strip of tape).

2) Get pin or thumbtack and push tip through several of the sifter holes.

3) To apply your makeup, turn the jar upside down (with the lid still on).  Tap it a few times on the counter to get a small amount through the holes.

When you open the lid there will be smaller, more manageable amounts in the lid to use.   If you want more powder to come out each time, simply add more holes!

If you’ve been noticing more wrinkles around your eyes after applying Powder Foundation, try Lauren Brooke Organic Facial Serum.  This serum combines wonderful skin-friendly oils that help those wrinkles disappear!

A wonderful tip after applying Powder Foundation is to put a drop or two of the Facial Serum on your fingertips and gently tap it under your eyes.  This helps to both moisturize your skin as well as blend the powder so it doesn’t settle in the fine lines and make them more noticeable.  Try it and see!
